Apparently that fact professed tirelessly by the media and political spokesmen is, in fact, debatable. Maybe, like Rich and me, you think that global warming is actually a power-driven hoax utilized by fear-mongers to the detriment of scientific judgment and misappropriation of attention and funds... but maybe not. As an 11 year old kid, I was traumatized by the threat of global warming, almost debilitatingly so, because of a ridiculously dramatized TV special called "After the Warming." Now, I'm aware that the scientific theories presented in this powerful, fear-driven piece of environmental propaganda were unfounded as none of the catastrophic changes predicted over the next 15 years (it's now been 17 years since the show aired) actually occurred. Hmm. Yet, the program was shown to my 6 grade science class and taught as fact. Now, after reflecting on all the fear I suffered, I'm upset. Is anyone else tired of all the fear propaganda we're bombarded with daily in the media? It's becoming more evident that we shouldn't believe everything we are told by the mainstream media. I just read a fascinating book called "The State of Fear" by Michael Crighton. It's packed with theories and scientific facts controversial to the global warming claim intermixed with a thrilling adventure that spans the globe as a handful of enlightened professionals race the clock to prevent man-made catastrophes, staged to look like the products of extreme climate change due to global warming. No one really knows if our global temperature is destined to change or even if the effects would be harmful to our world but it gives us something to speculate. I recommend reading this book. Crighton's convincing arguments against global warming will blow you away. Then, when you're done, share your thoughts.
As an aside, Rich and I still support efforts to recycle and limit waste and pollution, for health reasons, as well as the obvious benefits of not wasting resources and having a clean environment.

I agree Jodi. While "Global Warming" may be unfounded, why not recycle and at least do our part to extend our resources, limit our pollution, and just try to make Earth a cleaner place? The issue is some people are greedy or think what they do doesn't matter. In reality, if everyone just did their part, it would make a huge difference. But greed and selfishness of some always ruin things for everyone. Case in point, the whole financial fiasco...few people got rich at the expense of everyone else. Even we, who played by the rules, are getting punished for doing things right. Sorry...I'm just a tad bitter about the state of things right now. I can practically feel my retirement getting pulled out of my hands!
I knew you would LOVE this book! Dan & I did too.
Amen, sister!
I happen to believe that the Earth is in trouble, but that's not the point. I'm just glad that no matter what people think is going on, at least more people are "going green." I even take my hemp bags to the grocery store every time so that I don't have to use plastic sacks!
