Sound like fun? It did to Rich. On the morning of Jan. 1, 2010 Rich awoke with an epiphany. He announced, "I want to do the Polar Bear swim in a speedo!" I've lived with him long enough not to be surprised with these spontaneous ideas. In fact, I should have seen it coming. Although we had never before attended, nor considered the annual Chico New Year's Polar Bear Swim, it suddenly seemed like the perfect way to begin what is sure to be a monumental year (in some way.. isn't it always?). And of course, like his wife, he can't attend an event without dressing unusual in some way. Of course he wanted a speedo. So we quickly gathered the kids and raced to the nearest sporting goods store to find one. Not only do I approve of this behavior, I applaud it. I awake every morning with the assurance that life will never be dull. Marriage for eternity with Rich does not only seem possible but promises endless entertainment. With Rich, there will always be something new or interesting to discuss or do. Sure enough, Rich was quite the spectacle (not only because of his good looks... but because out of about 200 swimmers and even more spectators, he was one of only
two who sported the speedo. Way to go hon! He was joined by his pops Rick, Aunt Susie, her daughter Maggie, cousin Chelsea and friends. Watching them emerge on the other side of "One Mile's" pool shivering and blue-lipped, I was actually relieved that keeping watch of the kids (and taking pics of the event) had prevented me from joining them. Yes... those are my excuses.
Pam helped with the kids.... yes, the kids needed BOTH of us... (David commemorates his new "Chipmunks" tee with a chipmunk face of his own)
The only other male crazy enough to wear a speedo. Whoever he is... hats off to him.

I love Rich! He really is always a party to be around. Do you think he will treat us to the Speedo this summer at Karen's pool?
